What are the early signs of gum disease?

Red, swollen or bleeding gums, especially when brushing or flossing, are usually the first signs. Persistent bad breath and gums that look like they’re pulling away from the teeth are also common warning signs worth getting checked out.

Is bleeding when I brush always a sign of gum disease?

It’s often one of the earliest signs, yes. Occasional bleeding can happen if you’ve brushed too hard or started flossing again after a break, but if it continues for more than a few days, it’s best to get your gums checked.

How often should I see a hygienist to keep gum disease at bay?

Regular hygiene visits are one of the most effective ways to prevent gum disease from developing or getting worse. Our hygienists will recommend a schedule based on your gum health, and will help you build a home-care routine to maintain it between visits.

Can gum disease be reversed?

In its early stages, yes — with good daily brushing and flossing plus regular hygiene visits, gum inflammation can often be reversed. Once it progresses further, treatment focuses on managing it and preventing further damage to the gums and bone supporting your teeth.

What's the difference between flossing and using interdental brushes?

Both clean between your teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach, but interdental brushes can be easier to use effectively and are often better suited if you have larger gaps, braces, bridges or fixed retainers. Our hygienists can advise which is right for you.

They are so professional, personable and when I was running late, they were flexible. I feel the practice is not there to just make money but really help patients with the right treatment for them. The Dentist and her assistant were kind and made  me less anxious as I needed injection.At every step they offered reassurance and let me know what they were doing. The two ladies working reception are polite and happy to provide information and offer options. You get to see your before and after X-rays on a large screen which is a nice touch. I am moving my family to this practice and recommend to anyone looking for a dental practice be it nhs or private.
