What causes receding gums?

A number of things can contribute, including brushing too aggressively over time, hardened plaque build-up (tartar), smoking, diabetes and genetics. In many cases it’s a combination of factors rather than just one.

What are the signs I should look out for?

Bleeding after brushing or flossing, red or swollen gums, bad breath, pain along the gum line, or teeth that look longer than they used to are all common signs. Exposed tooth roots or loose teeth can indicate more advanced recession.

Can receding gums be reversed?

Is brushing too hard really enough to cause this?

They are so professional, personable and when I was running late, they were flexible. I feel the practice is not there to just make money but really help patients with the right treatment for them. The Dentist and her assistant were kind and made  me less anxious as I needed injection.At every step they offered reassurance and let me know what they were doing. The two ladies working reception are polite and happy to provide information and offer options. You get to see your before and after X-rays on a large screen which is a nice touch. I am moving my family to this practice and recommend to anyone looking for a dental practice be it nhs or private.
