It is essential to care for your teeth in order to keep them healthy, whether you are a child or an adult. Taking care of your teeth helps you avoid problems such as dental decay, gum disease and enamel wear. Dental examinations and hygiene appointments are recommended every six months, to ensure that your teeth are clean, strong, and healthy. Here are some of the forms of preventive dentistry:
Brush your teeth twice daily:
The most important form of preventive dentistry is to brush your teeth twice daily with an electric toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste. You should replace your toothbrush either at least three to four times a year or as the bristles start to splay. Also, don’t forget to use a tongue scraper daily to help remove bacteria from your mouth and freshen your breath.
Interdental cleaning daily:
Another recommended form of preventive dentistry is to floss daily. This helps to clean out the tight spaces between your teeth. If you have fixed retainers, bridges or braces, super floss or interdental brushes may be needed to get in between the metal brackets. You will need to make sure that you’re flossing in the right way in order to get the best out of flossing. Here at Denvolve, we can provide a flossing/interdental brushing demonstration to make sure you get the best results.
Dental Examinations:
It is recommended to have a thorough dental examination twice a year. However this may be more regular depending upon the overall condition of your teeth and gums in which case our team may recommend dental examinations every 3 months. Annual examinations may be recommended for patients who have a low-risk level for dental problems.
Eat a Balanced Diet:
An underrated form of preventive dentistry is eating a balanced diet. This will provide your teeth with the nutrients that they need. This means that you should limit your sugar intake, including basic carbohydrates such as white bread, and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Since vitamins are important for oral health, eating a balanced diet will help you get all of the vitamins you need to maintain a healthy smile.
Everyone benefits from preventive dentistry, especially children because it allows their newly developing adult teeth to come in strong and healthy. Think of oral health as an element of the health of your body. The mouth is a hotbed for harmful bacteria. Therefore, maintaining a clean mouth benefits your overall health.
